From Temp to Permanent: Making the Leap

A temp role can be the fastest route to a permanent job. Here's how to make the jump.

Temp-to-hire roles are essentially paid auditions. The employer gets to evaluate you with zero commitment, and you get to evaluate them. It's a fair deal — if you play it right.

Show up for every shift, on time, in proper PPE. This sounds obvious, but reliability is the single biggest factor in temp-to-hire conversions. Supervisors remember who they can count on.

Volunteer for extra shifts and cross-training. When a permanent slot opens, they'll ask the person who's already been trained in multiple areas. Make yourself the obvious choice.

Build relationships. Know your team lead and floor supervisor by name. Ask smart questions. Show interest in how the operation works. People hire people they like and trust.

Don't wait for them to offer. After 60–90 days of solid performance, have a direct conversation: 'I really enjoy working here and I'd love to discuss what a permanent role might look like.' Initiative is respected.
