Resume Refresh: How to Make Your CV Stand Out in 2026

A few small changes can move your resume to the top of the pile. Here's what recruiters actually look for in 2026.

In 2026, recruiters spend an average of six seconds on a first scan. That means your formatting, job titles and key skills need to jump off the page immediately.

Start with a clean single-column layout. Multi-column resumes look great to you but confuse applicant tracking systems (ATS) that parse your data. Stick to one column, clear headings and plenty of white space.

Tailor every application. Copy two or three key phrases from the job posting and weave them naturally into your experience bullets. ATS tools flag keyword matches, and hiring managers notice the alignment.

Lead with impact. Instead of listing duties ('Responsible for picking orders'), write outcomes ('Picked 200+ orders per shift with 99.8% accuracy'). Numbers catch the eye and prove competence.

Keep it to one page for under five years of experience, two for more. Anything longer gets skimmed — or skipped.
